Badminton

This is my Presentation about Badminton this Term, I had lots of fun because it teached me good lessons about it.

Straw Oboe Experiment

Title of experiment: Straw Oboe Experiment

Question:
(What do we want to find out?)
We want to find out if its going to be loud enough for us and also what we want to find out if we put more straws will it be loud it will it still be the same as the first one, and if the sound goes deeper if we put lots of straw or will it be lower.

Hypothesis:  (what do you think will happen?)
I think it will be really loud and it will vibrate into a person ear and it will go through there eardrum and it will go to there brain and there will do all the work. Also what will happened is that it will be really annoying because will always have to blow there straw oboe.

Procedure:
How will we find out?
(Step by step)
Is that first we grab a straw and a scissors and cut the top of the straw but we have to cut the sides and then we put the straw inside our mouth. And if we want to make even more better we can add some holes into it but it has to be small holes.

Results:
What actually happened When we put it to our mouth a sound came out it sounded like a beeping sound from a car horn I didn’t think that it was gonna work but it did at the end of it when we cut it shorter the sound became louder and lower it was so cool.

Conclusions:
We had to try it out to see if it will work or not  and to see if it was loud enough for it to hear it. At the end we learn that it did work and the sorter you cut it the louder it gets for us and when you blow it hard.

Questions:
1. What is producing the sound? What producing the sound is that when you blow the straw and try to make a really weird sound and try to make it loud because Its really cool but also we are producing that sound.
2. What pitch did we get when all holes were closed, compared to when the holes were
open? Is when the hole were closed what happened is that when when went to blow it it sound really funny it but when you add the holes it is really cool because you can make your own sound.
3. What does opening or closing a hole in the straw really mean in terms of vibrating an
air column? Is that if we put holes on them it will still vibrate because it will vibrate under the straw because when we blow it the air will go under the straw.

Questions:
What happens to the pitch as you cut off pieces of the straw? Is that the pitch will go lower and lower because the more you cut it it will go lower and the more you even cut it it will go even lower. Why? The reason it will go even lower because how you cut it it goes even lower and lower.

Reading Activity

Plastic Bags by Andre Ngapo, School Journal Part 3. Number 1 2011

WALT: Show our comprehension of the text by identifying the key occurrences.

Success Criteria: I can identify the key occurrences in the text.

Referring to the image on the first page what does the expression on the boys face tell us?
What do you think might happen to him in the story? He might get into trouble or he might go to detention.

What do you think the title has to do with the story? I think it is about a boy who gets into trouble for being naughty in class or for running around.

Why does Miss Anderson think Trent has been mucking about? Because he keeps laughing and running around the class.

Why do you think he was dizzy as he went out of the classroom? Because Jason told him the latest joke and he started laughing hard out that he got so dizzy.

What were the differences between Huia and Trent’s bags and Jason’s? What do you think about the reason for the differences? Huia and Trent have Plastic Bags but Jason's got a school bag.

What did Trent expect to happen when he went to the principal’s office? He expected to get into trouble but he didn't the principal said that she doesn't want to discuss his behavior she wants him to represent the school in a maths maths competition and that he will be doing some extra maths work for Miss Anderson.

How do you think Trent felt when he found out the real reason for going to the principal’s office? Trent felt tired and slow.

How do you think Trent felt at the end of the story, why? He felt punished and shamed for being naughty but feels good that he's going to the maths competition, because he is representing the school.

Have you ever been really hungry? How did it make you feel?  Yes I have been really hungry and if I don't eat I get hungrier.

Echolocation Explantion

Echolocation is a form of communication that animals use such as Bats, Dolphins, Whales , Porpoise and rats, It echoes in a large empty room and on the edges of the empty room or cave Bats use echolocation to hunt for food at night.

Echolocation is used by bats to hunt for food at night the sound bounces off and object and echoes back to them. There are different types of bats around the world that use echolocation, if bats didn't have echolocation they wouldn't do anything because echolocation helps bats to see at night times because bats can't see very well at night, so thats good they have echolocation.

Most bats send different sounds through their mouths that bounces off an object and comes back to them. Echolocation is something that some animals use at night times such as dolphins, porpoise, rats, whales and bats.

If you yell in a room it will hit the wall and bounce right back to you just like bats as they hunt for food the sound hits the wall then bounces back to them, when its people it hits their eardrum and they know what the sound is because it echoes back to them.

Sound Explanation

Sound is something we hear everyday and is all around us and a part of our daily lives. Sound is a vibration that travels through the air. Sound moves up and down or backwards and forwards in different directions and therefore all around us. What is vibration to you?

Sound vibration travel around to other peoples ears and travels to your brain . We have different types of sound because of how close the particles are the higher the pitch goes. The outer the particles go the lower the sound pitch goes.

Sound initially starts from noises that people make. Sound can move in different directions and places.  People cannot see sound they can only hear sound because sound travels really fast that we just cannot see it traveling through air.

Sounds changes as they move from one substance to another substance. A low pitch is when something is split apart but a high pitch is when something is put together by using pieces of sound and instruments. It uses the sound to vibrate.

The thing that causes high pitch about sound that we love to hear such as birds chirping up in the tree . These chirps are high pitch because the further the sound wave the higher the pitch and the closer the sound wave the lower the pitch .

Experiment

(What do we want to find out?)
We want to find out if we could hear each other from far just by using cups, a small string, a small rope and a thicker string.

: (What do you think will happen?)
I think that we will be able to hear each other by whispering and listening with the two cups and also the strings that we had poked in the cup .

First we were given three strings, two pins and also two cups , And the Ice blocks stick .

(What actually happened?)
We followed all of the instructions and it turned out that the rope somehow was the best string to use to hear the other person in the cup.

What we learn about the cups we learn that we can hear each other and which was so cool and. But it was really good that we could hear each other because we haven't try it befor. It was the best Experiment we ever did and a really good thing to try.

Mathswhizz

This is my Mathswhizz Question and I will be anwesering it for you now, So my strategy for this is  (SUBTRACTION)  so the question is 30-11=19.

Sound?

What is Sound?

To me I think Sound is a Vibration that travels through air as you drop a stone in the pond the water goes different directions and it goes outer not inner and thats what sound is like to me, Sound is also heard as you drop or hit something.

Sound Waves can travel different directions and areas such as backwards and forwards also right and left.

Reading Activity 1

Reading Activity: 1

What types of ideas is dad always getting? He got his ideas from work like he came home ina very good mood.

What do you think an ‘odd-ball idea is’? I think it is a very different idea to others, like one person speaks and there is someone that is the odd one out.

Where were ‘simple trumpets’ originally found? Simple trumpets like these were found in Tutankh-
mens Tomb.

Why was dads trumpet making no noise to begin with? Because he pressed his lips tightly together and puffed out his cheeks, but you cant tighten your lips you have to blow through the tube.

Why is dad making a trumpet? Who is he trying to ‘show what trumpeting is all about?  Dad is making a Trumpet because he was reading the magazine about early trumpets, He was showing Andrew how to blow a trumpet when he comes home.

For what reason did dad decide to use a balloon to blow his trumpet? Becuase it is like his lungs that will blow the trumpet when he streches the balloon to make it squeak.

What are your predictions for dads new materials he’s using to make his trumpet? I think it is good because as long as he knows what he is doing and how to make it work by blowing into the tube of the trumpet.

It seems that dad is doing a trial and error of different ways he could make a trumpet, do you agree with this statement? Why/why not? Yes i do because It is a trumpet that needs air to blow also, and no because it might not work as he blows through because it was hand maded.
